The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian - Sherman Alexie, Ellen Forney I absolutely loved this book. Read it in one sitting and felt a wide range of emotions. I laughed. I cried. I worried. I was angered. I was just moved in so many ways. Alexie is a fantastic, engaging writer and paring up with Forney for the illustrations was a brilliant move. I did have an easier time understanding Junior and feeling his emotions through his cartoons. The way you wanted to laugh in some of the saddest parts of the book are due to the fantastic writing and artistic pairing.

Learning about Native American history always made me feel a bit queasy in school. This is a true moment in American history where "white" Americans were very cruel to the people being conquered. Alexie gives a strong voice to a group of people that are trying to find their way in a country that doesn't seem to have a place for them.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone. It's well written, artistically intriguing, and very eye opening to anyone not familiar with Native American culture.
